Meet Eddie Alcorn, LCSW

From childhood, Eddie has had a deep appreciation for older adults. Growing up, Eddie cherished visits with two beloved grandmothers and enjoyed spending time with older neighbors who always had a kind word, a piece of hard candy, and wisdom to share. As a teenager and young adult, Eddie volunteered in local nursing homes, offering companionship to residents who often felt forgotten. It was a natural progression for Eddie to pursue a career as a social worker specializing in older adults, a path that has been both joyful and deeply meaningful.

Eddie specializes in supporting adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, caregiver stress, adjustment disorder, mild cognitive impairment, vision loss, and trauma. Eddie is particularly passionate about helping older adults navigate changes in health and function while finding continued joy, meaning, and purpose in their lives. Eddie also enjoys working with individuals in the “sandwich generation” who are balancing the demands of caring for children and aging parents while managing work, relationships, and other responsibilities.

Eddie’s professional experience includes six years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the COACH Program at the Durham VA, following previous work in strategic planning at UNC Health. Eddie also holds adjunct faculty positions at North Carolina Central University, UNC Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest Baptist School of Medicine, where Eddie has taught courses in healthcare statistics, financial management, and strategic planning.

Eddie believes that beginning therapy can feel daunting, but finding a therapist who listens, supports, and helps clients move toward healing through evidence-based interventions can be life-changing. Eddie takes a collaborative, strengths-based approach, helping clients explore their feelings, consider different perspectives, identify existing strengths, and develop practical strategies for navigating both immediate concerns and long-term goals.
