Open Up To Someone You Trust

In honor of mental health awareness month, I want to take some time just to talk about why your mental health matters. Yours—yes, you. Everyone deals with caring for their mental health as well as physical health as part of being human. Just as we would tend to a cut if it was bleeding, we also must tend to our inner wounds. Some  are hard to see. Some  are not so hard to recognize because they can get in our way of daily functioning.

You might find yourself going through the motions in life, asking yourself questions like…

Why don’t I feel like I can get up and do something with my day?

Where are these negative thoughts coming from?

Why is this person/event such a big deal to me?

Is there something wrong with me?

Sometimes a safe next step that we can take is to ask these questions out loud to a trusted person.

Who do you have in life you could turn to for support or healing if you were physically sick? Do you have a person that you could turn to with questions like these? For some people, it is as simple as having a trusted friend or family member who will listen and not judge. For others, it could be a conversation with a trusted healthcare provider. It can feel intimidating, even scary, to confide in anyone about mental health challenges or questions.

Here at Kildaire Counseling, Anna and I want to be a resource you can turn to. We have worked with thousands of clients over the past decades of our careers. One of the first things we might say is that these feelings that you may have are quite common and nothing to feel ashamed about having. In fact, one in five people in the U.S. experience a mental illness each year (NAMI).

We will also tell you openly if we feel your individual needs may be better met with another therapist. We understand the trust that needs to happen in the process of healing, and from our first conversation, we will be glad to help you find someone else if one of us is not the right fit for you. Likewise, you can freely tell us if we are not meeting your needs.

Mental healthcare is just as important as physical healthcare for your mind and your body. Connect with us today to see how we can help you on your unique path to healing and thriving.
